The Dakota Discovery Museum is hosting Back to the Hills, an exhibit of the work of area artist Bill Wegleitner, through October and November.

Born and raised in the Dakotas, Wegleitner spent countless hours traversing the prairies.

“In my youth I spent hours exploring the wooded areas surrounding the Missouri River on the same paths that the great explorers, Lewis and Clark traveled.” said Wegleitner.

“Over the years, I have traveled a fair amount. I have spent time in the Northern Rockies of Montana and Colorado, the Sierras and have been to the wilds of the Canadian Territories, exploring the outdoors all the while. All these experiences are instrumental to shaping my thoughts when I attempt to capture a moment in time on canvas.”

Wegleitner’s most recent works express his love of the Black Hills, “Its stories of the Old West, Deadwood, the Gold Rush, and pioneers have always captured my imagination.”

Selected pieces of Mr. Wegleitner’s extensive body of work are featured during this exhibit.  The majority of his work, including his wildlife paintings can be seen at Wegleitner Fine Art Gallery & Studio which he opened in October 2012, and is located at 322 West Havens, Mitchell.

Back to the Hills will open Oct 12 and run through Nov 15.  A free admission public reception will be held for the artist on Oct 12 from 2 pm to 4 pm with a Gallery Talk at 2:15.  Mr. Wegleitner will be doing several painting demonstrations at the museum during his exhibit. Check the museum website or call for his schedule. The museum is located on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University at 1300 McGovern Ave., Mitchell.  605-996-2122 or email
