The Dakota Discovery Museum will host the New York duo Silver Rootswho will be performing an evening of classical, folk and original music on Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 PM.
The musical duo of Shawn Wyckoff (flute) and Maria Kaneko Millar (violin) are graduates of The Juilliard School of New York, NY.
Violinist, composer and singer Maria Kaneko Millar has performed as a soloist throughout Canada, Ireland, China, Japan and the US. She has aired in performances on The Canadian, British and American Broadcasting Corporations, The WB’s One World Jam, CBS Sunday Morning and CBS The Early Show. Maria lives to improvise: her arrangements and aural transcriptions of Asian, Celtic, Gypsy, Klezmer, Tango, Turkish, blues, jazz, pop, rock and classical music have laid the foundation for fearless ad-libbing.
Flutist Shawn Wyckoff is an avid solo and chamber musician who has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, The Kennedy Center, Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, The Library of Congress, BargeMusic, MOMA and the Guggenheim Museum. Shawn’s orchestral work includes concerts with Continuum, One World Symphony and The Harmonia Opera Company. Shawn is a First Prize winner of The Judith Lapple National Flute Competition and the Flute Society of Washington Competition. He was named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar of the Arts and received the Stephen Brewster Award, the John Philip Sousa Award and the National Alliance for Excellence Award.
The program will be held in the historic Farwell Church on the museum grounds located at 1300 McGovern Ave., Mitchell. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youth ages 6 to 18.
